Ailsa Craig Race

Fri 3rd - Sun 5 July

Ailsa Craig Race for the Southern Cross Trophy

Two classics of Clyde sailing, a race and a trophy, will feature together in 2026 in a unique collaboration between two clubs. The Clyde Cruising Club has run its Ailsa Craig Race for almost 100 years and will again be featuring the event in its programme for 2026, including results for boats racing 2-handed as part of the Mudhook series.

But this year's race will be something really special because the overall trophy for the winner will be the famous Southern Cross Trophy, presented to what is now Ayr Yacht and Cruising Club in 1965 and competed for regularly until about 1990 for Ayr YCC's own Ailsa Craig Race.

Plans for the race are not quite finalised but it is likely to consist of:

Race starting on Friday 3 July from Inverkip or Largs round Ailsa Craig and finishing at Troon

Social event on Saturday evening 4 July at Troon including presentation of the Southern Cross Trophy to the overall winner

Return race from Troon to Largs on Sunday 5 July.
