Volunteering
The Scottish Series relies on an army of Volunteers to run the event.
Not only do volunteers get the best views of the racing, there are some perks too!
There's a special Volunteers party on Friday evening. Lunches provided each day. T shirts.
There are two main areas of Volunteering: On the water and shoreside. Some people do a little of each.
Committee vessels have a crew that start and monitor each race. That involves flags signals, sounds (hooters) timing, spotting which boats cross the line when, dealing with restarts, and generally manging the race under the supervision of the Race Officer.
Ribs do a variety of work including laying and moving marks, early finishes, spotting from the other end of the start line and general assistance to the Committee Vessel.
On shore, there's communications, noticeboard updates, calculating results, posting results, updating website, handing out goodie bags to competitors, general administration of entries.
With over 600 people involved there's always queries and issues to deal with, the shoreside team handle that.
