HANDICAP SYSTEMS

The Club offers races for yachts using IRC handicaps and CYCA handicaps.

IRC

The RORC's rating system based on measurements of a yacht and its rig submitted by the owner to the Rating Office. Independent measurement and weighing is not required but can be useful to verify measurements and manufacturers brochures. The system is widely used throughout the UK, Ireland and the USA together with many overseas countries making IRC the most widely used handicap system for yacht racing ever.

Details of IRC including the rules and an application form are available from the RORC
Rating Office www.rorcrating.com telephone 01590 677030, fax 01590 679478. The RORC also operate a limited validity certificate system which is cheaper to obtain but is only valid for a single event; details on the website.

CYCA HANDICAPS

Administered by the Clyde Yacht Clubs' Association are used widely for racing in the West of Scotland. CYCA handicaps are assessed by a committee representing the main racing clubs on the Clyde and are based on the sailing potential of the yachts. All yachts of the same type will have the same handicap unless application is made for any of the permitted handicap allowances for such things as fixed propellers and a furling genoa.
Details and measurement forms are available from the CYCA www.cyca-online.org.uk telephone and fax 01436 673424.
